Training

  • Department of Health: WSI trained just over 2 000 nurses / doctors in End User Computing.  The training focused on an Introduction to Computers, Microsoft Word and use of the internet and email. The training ran from January - July 2009.
  • Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA): WSI ran SMME training for 100 prisoners who are about to complete their sentences.  The aim of this training was to provide these prisoners with SMME skills so that can start their own businesses once released.
  • eSETA: WSI ran a capacity building workshop for NGOs / CBOs on how to access funding from the SETAs.

 

Project Management

  • Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority’s (SASSETA) Military Veteran National Skills Fund Project (2 year contract). The objective of this R56 million project was to train military veterans in skills for employability – be this in the formal job sector or to start their own Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs).  WSI, together with its partners, was responsible for project planning, management of all training and service providers nationally, financial management, and stakeholder management.
  • Seta for Secondary Agriculture (3 year contract). WSI was responsible for the overall project management of the SETASA NSF and its sub-projects, namely: Cross functional skills; Bursary scheme/scarce skills; ABET (2 900 learners); SMME support; Export Readiness. We responsible for the design of the project, for recruiting, inducting learners, liaising with institutions, administering the programmes Monitoring and Evaluation of the programme and reporting to the SETA and DoL.
  • Uthukela Water (Ongoing): We have worked with the Human Resource division and have assisted in the management of their training interventions.  We have researched their skills needs, conducted a Skills Audit, prepared Workplace Skills and Employment Equity Plans.

Marketing and Communication

  • Department of Labour: National: We have recently produced a Marketing and Communication Strategy for the Employment and Skills Development Services of the national DoL.  We are currently working on a plan and implementation activities in order to ensure that the strategy is marketed and that role players and stakeholders are aware of the changes within the skills development arena. We have a long – standing relation with the DoL after having been involved in the marketing and communication of the first National Skills Development Strategy nationally.
  • Forest Industries Education and Training Authority (FIETA). The SHINTSHA Furniture Project as a National Skills Fund Project of FIETA. WSI, with CODI Communications won a 2-year contract to engage in marketing and communication activities for the project.  These activities included: Event Management; Public Relations; Writing and editing (Booklets and Marketing Materials); Design and publications; Writing / Design of advertorials; Management of Photography and Videography.

Brochures / Publications / Educational Materials

  • W&RSETA: Update of Critical and Scarce Skills Guide as well as poster and brochure.
  • Department of Labour: Leadership Pack – This included 5 booklets, 6 pamphlets and a poster that explain aspects of the National Skills Development Strategy.  Fifty thousand copies were produced and distributed nationally.
  • Alex Health Centre and University Clinic: Wrote their 70th Anniversary Publication.
  • LINK Newsletter: Edit and production of the official newsletter of the LINK Centre, Wits University.  This newsletter is made available to industry to update them on what is happening in the telecommunications and information technology world.
  • Annual Reports:  Urban Sector Network/South African Qualifications Authority; CETA; MDDA
  • Our Past, Our Pride: ABET publication.  Researched in Impendle, KwaZulu-Natal and produced as ABET publication.  This was published by Via Afrika.
